A Large Intramedullary Neurofibroma in the Thoracic Spinal Cord: Case Report
Neurofibromas are occasionally present in spinal roots; however, an intramedullary neurofibroma is especially rare. Although a few cases of intramedullary neurofibromas in cervical spinal cord have been reported, to the best of our knowledge, there are no reports of intramedullary neurofibromas in thoracic spinal cord, and moreover, no reports have clearly reported immunohistochemical findings....

A previously healthy eighteen year old female presented with interscapular pain of 6 months duration. She also experienced progressive decline in her ability to perform fine motor skills such as handwriting as well as deficiency in coordination and motor strength. Imaging of the spine revealed a well demarcated intradural intramedullary lesion in the central portion of the cervical spinal cord....

Neurofibroma is a tumor composed of a complex proliferation of neuromesenchymal tissue (Schwann cells, perineural cells, fibroblast, and mast cells). Giant solitary anterior cervical canal neurofibroma (GSACCN) is rarely reported in the literature. When the large lesion is ventrally located to the spinal cord, an anterolateral approach may not be ideal due to various technical challenges. In this report, we describe a case of intradural extramedullary GSACCN located at the cervical region extending from the axis to the sixth cervical vertebr...
